Manufacturing Entertainment (Julie and I) will be artists-in-residence at the Klondike Institute of Art + Culture (KIAC) in Dawson City Yukon!

We’re absolutely thrilled to be traveling to Dawson City and to engage with artists there. We plan to work with projections and surface speakers/exciters to build some kind of community-created A/V work that responds to the unique environment of Dawson City. Stay tuned!

I will be composing for the newest work by Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers in May.

Known for highly physical and complex work, Bailie creates experimental works that are visual, abstract, and reflective. Always athletic, Bailie has presented new creations for Winnipeg audiences annually for over 20 years!

For a second year, Manufacturing Entertainment is curating and producing four large-scale projections for Lights on the Exchange, an outdoor winter art festival in the Exchange District of Winnipeg. The 2024 festival runs from January 21 to March 21, 2023.

I am creating the sound design and some original electronic compositions for this immersive theatre piece taking place October 19-28, 2023 at PORTAGE AVENUE CHURCH: 1420 PORTAGE AVENUE.

I’ll be creating a theatrical sound installation as part of the design as well as working with cymatics to create some interesting audio/visual effects.

It has been 30 years since the apocalyptic devastation of The Great World Flood. In honour of this 30th anniversary our famed leader Cassandra invites you to visit New Winnipeg and experience all we have to offer.

Manufacturing Entertainment is curating several large-scale projections as part of Lights On The Exchange - A new festival in Winnipeg’s Historic Exchange District.

Lights on the Exchange – Allumez le Quartier will debut January 21 and run through March 21. The Exchange District BIZ is in partnership with Artspace and Manufacturing Entertainment in launching the inaugural arts festival.

TPM has always been the home of Manitoba Playwrights and we couldn’t be more pleased to bring you this World Premiere by Winnipeg treasure, Ellen Peterson. This apocalyptic fable follows a trio of aging ex-vaudevillians who are inextricably tied together even as they goad each other to the brink.    A play about garbage, longing, Niagara Falls, and our inescapable interconnectedness–for better and worse.  It’s the end of the world seen through the incomparable imaginative lens of one of Winnipeg’s finest playwrights. 

Featuring a stellar team of local artists, Alissa Watson (The Paper Bag Princess – PTE, founding member of The Red Nose Diaries and The Talentless Lumps), directs Monique Marcker (Albertine in Five Times, The Elmwood Visitation, North Main Gothic), Gabriel Daniels (A Winter’s Tale – SIR), and Jane Testar (Winter’s Tale – SIR, founding member of Outside Joke, and Hot Thespian Action) with designers Joyce Licup, Brenda McLean, Ksenia Broda-Milian, and Emma Hendrix.  

Manufacturing Entertainment are pleased to announce perdere: to lose, to waste, to destroy will be part of the Dobra Festival in Brazil, and will also be viewable online between Sept 25 and October 2nd.

Program: Myths And Rites Of Passage In Another World

This program brings together films that investigate the contemporary landscape through the mark of the cataclysms and imbalances of a planet in transition. Films that experiment with different approaches and multiple paths regarding language, that make us imagine other ways of perceiving the landscapes of our inner worlds in the face of social impacts.

The VIII DOBRA will take place between September 22nd to 24th at Cinemateca do MAM, with free entry. After the end of the in-person activities, the festival will have an online continuation, from September 25th to October 2nd.

Winnipeg’s Contemporary Dancers newest work, choreographed by Jolene Bailey will feature a brand new score composed by me.

In Between Here and Now, by Artistic Director, Jolene Bailie, featuring an ensemble of Winnipeg dancers and lighting by long-time collaborator, Hugh Conacher. Known for her visual and complex work, Bailie creates experimental works that are abstract, personal and reflective. This new work explores dynamics of perceptions and desire.

glamTURE, a portmanteau created by combining glam metal and torture, is an installation that perpetually auto-reverses specific guitar solo sections from 80s glam rock records on multiple modified turntables concurrently. The repetition of the solos simultaneously amplifies and dilutes the guitar-hero passages and, throughout the course of the exhibition, each record and stylus slowly deteriorates, representing the values and styles of a genre built on juxtapositions. 80s glam rock contradicted itself in its musical style, message and appearance. It promoted cross-dressing and hyper-masculinity simultaneously, the sloppiness of drug and alcohol use was contrasted with the precision of the guitar solos and the care given to make-up and hairstyling. glamTURE examines the pinnacle moment that these bands and their fans anticipated: the guitar solo as the musical and performative climax of each song. The over-indulgent competitive edge that each band claimed as their own unique “genius”.

You Are Not A Beautiful And Unique Snowflake is an immersive electro-mechanical sculptural sound composition comprised of forty modified tin harmonic tops. As they spin, each top generates a tonal hum that has unique micro-characteristics resulting from individual variations in speed, wobble, and minor imperfections created during the manufacturing process. Together the tops generate a drone that provokes an exploration of the nature of perception and illusory correlation. Although the tops and their motors are theoretically identical, the compositional decisions of the artists and the relative position of the observer inevitably results in a sonic bias that emphasizes one top over another at any given time in the composition.

I am honoured to have been commissioned to create new audio compositions for local and international intermedia artist Freya Olafson’s newest performance MǢ - Motion Aftereffect.

MǢ is a performance that explores motion-capture, ready-made 3D models and monologues found online, ranging from experiences with virtual reality in live game-play to out-of-body experiences and astral projection.

Presented as part of the Prairie Theatre Exchange ‘Leap Series’.

TOPS (working title) is a new project of mine, conceived of as an electro-mechanical sculptural sound composition and performance tool comprised of 40 modified tin harmonic tops, each controlled via a set of linked Arduino microcontrollers.

This project was recently funded by the BC Arts Council and is currently in production. I expect to have a prototype completed in the next few months.

There is a nine minute single shot determined by the currents of the Peace River under threat by BC Hydro and the SiteC dam project. Sound sources were recorded on location and in the depths of a hydro dam.

If the dam is completed this entire area, Indigenous burial and ceremonial land, and fertile farmland will be under water.

What you see here is not the final outcome of the artwork. There is a single shot version, and a performance rehearsal version.

We (Julie Gendron and I) will be conducting the first part of research and field recording for Julie's project "When Once There Was". We will be travelling to the Peace River Valley to the Site "C" Dam location to record audio and visual raw material to be used in a live A/V performance. The performance will be developed from the raw material we collect while travelling in the Valley.

I am pleased to have VERTIGO DIGRESSION NO. 3 as part of the group exhibition, SEEDED, celebrating the launch of Video Pool's new POOLSIDE Gallery. Work will be on display Friday and Saturday.

City and the City is an audience-driven interactive play based on the novel by China Mieville that will be performed at PuSh in January 2017. I have stepped off this project due to my move to Winnipeg, but have contributed to the development of the show conceptually and through the music below. Unfortunately, you will not hear any of my sounds at this show in January, but I expect it to be an interesting piece.
